<p>The upcoming West Java gubernatorial election has attracted police top brass and celebrities aspiring to the province's top post.</p><p>In a meeting to discuss independent candidate qualifications held at the West Java General Elections Commission in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday, several popular faces including 80s singer-song writer Deddy Supriadi, popularly known as Deddy Dores, South Sumatra Police chief Insp. Gen. Dikdik Mulyana Arief Mansyur, Bogor-based businessman Maman Daning and House of Representatives' legal commission member Daday Hudaya expressed interest in running for the job.</p><p>The commission secretary for the West Java gubernatorial candidacy working group, Teppy W. Dharmawan, said that his team was prepared to receive and verify supporters' signatures gathered by the potential candidates as part of the qualification process they must undergo before making it onto the ballot. Each candidate pair has to collect at least 1.5 million signatures from West Java residents to be allowed to run as an independent candidate.
