MYERS, Fla -- Mike Aviles, the Red Sox's starting shortstop for most of last season, was back at the JetBlue Park Tuesday -- not as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, the team to whom the Red Sox traded him last October for the right to sign manager John Farrell, or with his new employers, the Cleveland Indians, who acquired him 13 days later -- but rather with Team Puerto Rico, which was making final preparations for the World Baseball Classic.

"I think we're going to be pretty good," predicted Aviles, who started at shortstop for Puerto Rico and moved to third base in the fifth inning. "We've got a good lineup and we've got some good young pitchers."

Like many members of Team Puerto Rico, Aviles hopes a strong showing in the Classic will rekindle enthusiasm for baseball in that country.
